  • 2006: Collaborated with the Office of Social Ministry (Now: HOPE Services HI., Inc.) to open Ponahawaiola Community Reintegration Program

  • 2013: Five-year strategic plan goals completed; updated strategic plan to be formulated
  • 2014: Going Home Executive Committee votes to invest in website development

  • 2014: Kulani Prison reopens ~ 200-bed spaces available for low-risk inmates to return to Hawaii Island
  • 2014: Going Home Consortium Benefit Fundraiser (Honorees: Ted Sakai, PSD & Dwight Takamine, DLIR)
  • 2015: Going Home Hawaii received 501 (c) (3) designation from the IRS
  • 2015: 4th Annual Benefit Fundraiser held to honor: Blayne Hanagami, Workforce Development & Irene Nagao, Numerous Community Groups Advocate and Member
  • 2015: Ted Sakai, (former) Director of the State Dept. of Public Safety becomes a contracted consultant for Going Home Hawaii
  • 2016: First-ever National Reentry Week --- events coordinated throughout the week. (April 24-30)
  • 2016: Interim Executive Director approved by the Going Home Hawaii Board of Directors
  • 2017: Going Home Hawaii secures a Clean and Sober House in Hilo with beds for up to eight (8) unrelated males in need of reentry/recovery housing. (which is now known as the Pu'uhonua Wellness Center)
  • 2017: Going Home Hawaii receives Contingency Funds from County Council Members to begin a pilot project for the In-Reach and Reintegration (IRR) program in Kailua-Kona. The project assists offenders who are charged or convicted with non-violent offenses, suffer from mental illness, and are incarcerated or at-risk of incarceration at the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center (HCCC).
  • 2018: Going Home Hawaii receives a State Grant-In-Aid award to support the In-Reach and Reintegration (IRR) program in Kailua-Kona.
  • 2018: Going Home holds our 1st Annual Returning Home Conference held at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, Hale 'olelo. The conference focused on the journey from incarceration to community and included Hawai'i Island, Kaua'i, Maui, and Oahu representatives who work with justice-involved individuals.
  • 2018: Going Home Hawaii received a three (3) year Federal Second Chance Act award to provide pre and post-release supportive services for justice-involved individuals; which includes peer mentoring support and case management services.
  • 2019: Going Home Hawaii hosts two (2) Community Forums on Substance Use and Mental Health in Hilo and Kailua-Kona.
  • 2019: Held our 8th Annual Going Home Consortium Benefit Fundraiser and honored Dr. Marilyn Brown (UHH) and Donna Madrid (HCC). Our theme this year was: "Women and Education".
