GH Committees & Coalitions
Going Home Committees & Coalitions have been established to focus on specific areas that are instrumental in successful community reintegration:
- Criminal Justice Partners
Committee Chair: Polly Varize, State of Hawaii Dept. of Public Safety (Kulani Correctional Facility)
Works together in close collaboration with the Judicial System to create more effective partnerships.
- Health & Housing
Committee Co-Chairs: Cyd Hoffeld (Bay Clinic) & Trillium Simington (East Hawai'i Perinatal Consortia)
Creates a collaborative approach to provide medical, mental and substance abuse treatment to persons at-risk through the coordination of multiple support services. Additionally, the committee provides services to homeless individuals returning to our community from incarceration, addresses housing concerns from Going Home members, and generates additional housing opportunities.
- Education & Career Pathways
Committee Co-Chairs: Donna Madrid (Hawai'i Community College), Kaylah Smith (Goodwill) & John Kaiwi (Hi Employment)
Ensures the availability of a full range of educational programs for successful re-entry into the workforce and reduces employment barriers by providing effective job search techniques necessary to obtain employment. Additionally, the committee gains employer involvement with the Going Home Initiative through targeted employer directed activities.
- West Hawaii Coalition (ALOHA Initiative)
Committee Chair: Alysa Lavoie
Assists with reintegration needs of former offenders returning to West Hawai'i.
- Community Relations
Committee Co-Chairs: Kimi Palacio (Going Home Hawaii) & Michelle Kobayashi (Women Supporting Women)
Organizes communication with the general public through various media venues for the purpose of educating the community about Going Home efforts, its successes, and building support.
- Faith-Based Organizations
Committee Co-Chairs: Bob Gunderson, Interfaith Communities In Action (Community of Christ Church)
Serves men and women in transition with educational, spiritual, and mentoring components on an interfaith level.
- Restorative Justice
Committee Chair: Tim Hansen, County of Hawai'i - Office of the Prosecuting Attorney
- Justice-Involved Youth
Committee Chair: Chenoa Paiva, Big Island Juvenile Parole
- Cultural Competence
Committee Co-Chairs: Kaipo Dye (Hawai'i Community College EDvance/Kulani Correctional Facility) & Allysyn "Auntie Aloha" Bezilla (Keiki O Ka Aina / Hawai'i Community College)
- Executive Committee
Committee Co-Chairs: Irene Nagao (GHH Board Vice President of Development) & Les Estrella (GHH CEO)
Focuses on internal issues, i.e., policies, directives, plans, collaborations, and sustainability of the consortium and its projects. Identifies needs and funding priorities. Additionally responsible for tracking legislation that impacts the Going Home priorities.
